    Ethereum.org: Exciting Developments Unveiled!

Greetings to the initial development update for Ethereum.org, the inaugural entry in a consistent series of blog articles keeping the community informed on the website’s advancements.

What have we been engaged in?

    πŸ‘‹ Recruiting!

When we relaunched ethereum.org earlier this year, it swiftly became evident that the website required a dedicated team to fulfill the community’s anticipations. Throughout the summer, we have focused on establishing that team to sustain the website’s future. Today, we are excited to declare that the EF has enlisted a full-time web developer for ethereum.org: Sam Richards.

Sam’s position will involve spearheading all technical enhancements of ethereum.org and serving as the primary contact for all open-source contributors to the website. Sam brings expertise in web development, digital marketing, and SEO, having most recently been employed at an Ethereum wallet startup.

We are incredibly excited for Sam to become part of the team – please join us in welcoming him to the EF!

♻️ Developing the Translation Initiative and Team

One of our top priorities with the website’s overhaul was to establish a comprehensive translation initiative. Ethereum is the most widely used programmable blockchain worldwide, and it is essential that the 80% of individuals who do not speak English can access vital resources.

Since we announced the initiative, we have been joined by 116 volunteers who are diligently working to translate the website into 17 languages. Several of these translations will be made live on the site in the forthcoming weeks.

As we proceed to expand the translation efforts, we will broaden our scope to incorporate the translation of important third-party resources: blog entries, documentation, and additional materials. We are also focused on ensuring that ethereum.org is constructed in a manner that allows us to add and update translations efficiently and sustainably.

    πŸ›  Repairing, merging, and updating

Since our launch, we have merged 102 pull requests, making numerous adjustments and modifications to the website in response to community feedback. With Sam now part of the team, we anticipate a significant increase in our pace. As always, the development of ethereum.org occurs in our Github repository – check it out if you wish to stay updated or work on any existing issues.

We have also launched the first new piece of artwork for the homepage. Every few months, we will refresh the website with new artwork crafted by the Ethereum community – a method of highlighting the talents within our ecosystem and reminding the world that Ethereum is constantly evolving and enhancing due to the contributions of our global community.

    🎯 What comes next?

Here’s a glimpse of our focus areas for the upcoming weeks:

πŸ€” User persona assessment and site reorganization

    • When we debuted the new ethereum.org, we began with four straightforward subpages: a page for beginners, a page for users wishing to utilize Ethereum, a page for general education about the project, and a page for developers.
    • Currently, we are reconsidering that structure. Equipped with a few months of fundamental user analytics data and substantial feedback from the community, we are evaluating the user personas for ethereum.org.
    • Upon completion, this will likely result in a reorganization of the top-level site structure, adjustments to the landing page, and possibly the creation of new subpages for users currently not adequately catered to.

    πŸ‘©β€πŸ’» Enhanced developer resources

    • We have launched a dedicated landing page for Java developers: ethereum.org/java.

      • Given that many developers focus on a specific programming language, crafting language-specific pages serves as a pivotal technique for developer outreach and onboarding.
      • We are in the process of developing more developer landing pages: for instance, check the open issues for /javascript and /python

    • We are on the verge of completing a new feature for the website that will allow developers to instantly jump into a “studio” where they can draft their first solidity contract right on ethereum.org

    • We are striving to ensure that all project management is displayed on Github, enabling us to leverage more community input and feedback.
    • This will entail creating more thoroughly documented issues to facilitate open-source contributors in understanding how they can assist with the site’s development. Check all issues labeled “good first issue”
    • We have also established a twitter account for the website: @ethdotorg. This account will be utilized to announce updates like this one, as well as more detailed updates such as the addition of an excellent new resource or article, a new feature, an intriguing pull request, and beyond.
